This site is dedicated to the memory of John and Elizabeth Fregon, their children, and families.

John Fregon was born Jean Vantilles Frigon in Louiseville, Maskinonge County, Quebec Canada on 2 May 1829 The L'Association des familles Frigon inc (Frigon Family association) based in Quebec Canada trace the Frigon lineage back to France in 1665. Jean Frigon anglicised his name to John Fregon on arriving in Australia on the "Ocean Eagle" from Boston USA in 1852. John found his way to Omeo in East Gippsland Victoria Australia some 450 km north East of Melbourne where gold had recently been found and selected land at Tongio, 15 km south of Omeo.

Elizabeth Mc Coid was born in Scotland on 9 November 1846. She emigrated with her family from Girvan Scotland to Australia in 1855 and on arrival the family name was changed to Mc Coy. The Mc Coy family selected land in Swifts Creek East Gippsland Victoria and named their property Scotsburn.

Elizabeth Mc Coy and John Fregon were married in May 1863 when she was only 16 and a half. They subsequently had 13 children. John Fregon died in Omeo on 20th April 1886 and was buried in the Omeo Cemetery. The Gravestone shows John's age as 49, whereas from his birth certificate he would have been 56. Elizabeth Fregon died in Melbourne on 9 November 1926 aged 79 and was buried in the Omeo Cemetery.
